Day 1

Nezumi knew Shion had been watching him as he walked back toward the ruins of the West Block. He wanted to turn around... but that would have been a mistake so he didn't. He would probably have run back, maybe even cried and made a fool of himself... or worst yet, seen Shion's back as he returned to what was left of No. 6.

No, this was the right thing to do. Shion deserved the chance at normalcy—whatever normal was in that damned City anyway. He needed to be with his mother. It wasn't fair that Nezumi had intruded in their lives four years ago. They both had gone through so much because of him. This was the least he could do to make up for that. He kept his promises after all, and now Karan was going to see her son again.

Kicking a stone, Nezumi sighed. He was still a long way from home—a colder and emptier place now, if it had not been destroyed, that was—but he had no energy left. He slumped on the ground, leaning on the foundation of a collapsed wall, and dug the heels of his hands into his eyes until it hurt, so that when he opened them again his vision became blurry, and not because of the tears. He must have pushed too hard that it actually made it cry...

It had become dark when Cravat squeaked by his feet and then climbed onto his knee. Squeak, squeak. Tsukiyo appeared as well and both rats were now on his right shoulder. Hamlet must have gone to Shion. It also loved his voice.

Nezumi stood up and brushed soot off his clothes. "Yeah, yeah, I know." Nezumi swallowed hard and took a deep breath before taking a last glance at No. 6.

His eyes were dry, and he was smiling. See you later, Shion.
